i use a talking watch, have for the past 10 years, and every time my battery dies, i need to get a new one.

i tried to have the battery replaced in the first one, and the watch itself worked, but it didn't talk, so, i thought, that, once the battery dies, it's time for a new one.

is this true, or is there something to the battery, or what?

i would allways do that too. When my watch battery would die i would buy a new one. I know you can get them at Radio Shack for $12 or so.

Yeah same with me. I think my dad tried to replace it once but it just wouldn't work. It's a pain, really.

This is why I use braille watches. For 1, they're quiet, and u can check the time anytime anywhere no matter what. for 2, when your battery dies, all I need to do is replace the battery.

This is why I just use my phone to get the time with Talks number 9 on the keypad. OK, it isn't as quick as pressing the playback button on the talking watch, but those watches always have to chime, bleep or say "the, time, is" before they get round to telling you the sodding time, by which time then, you've lost the will to live, lol. Braille watches, well, the hands have always, always, fallen off when I owned one, so scrub that, lol. I was given a 1 button talking watch for Christmas from RNIB and that bloody thing says "the time is" before actually telling you what it is. Mercifully, I have the perfect excuse to send the thing right back to RNIB where it came from, due to the fact it resets itself to 12:00 am every so often. With those watches, you have to get a sharp pointed object, an open paper clip for example, to stick in the buttons and set the time all over again. I can't be bovvered, basically, lol ya know? My face isn't bovvered like.

Braille watches are nice, but you certainly don't want to read them while in motion. Personally, when I run, I wear talking watch so that I don't have to stop to check the time. Really, matter of preference, ability to read braille watches, and wanting to hear time quickly, etc, etc, etc, not about which ones are better than the others. Anyway, as far as I understand it, those cheap talking watches aren't designed to have user replaceable battery compartment. In fact, you're not even supposed to be able to open the lid to replace the battery. If you buy more of the expensive ones, say, upwards of $50 or higher, those you can replace batteries. Besides, it probably is almost cheaper to buy a cheap talking watch than buying a new battery!

I usually wear a Braille watch, but I do have a talking one in case I need it. I've always been able to change the battery in my talking watch without a problem. Must depend on the watch itself.

I don't kno if this is correct, but I heard that talking watches take 2 batteries. One for the watch part, and another for speech. I have a braille watch that is still ticking for about 5 years, and only 3 battery changes. If this is not a 2 year battery, then It's almost time for a new one.

I have a braille watch that I use and I love it since I am in college, and I hate for everyone to know when I am checking the time. It draws unnececary attenchen to myself. and If Iwant depending on the situation I use my laptop to see the time or check on my phone like person above says. bu also on my HTZ O-zone I can just check on the um, HOMEPAGE? its wear it says weather or not if Y-fye is on or off, if I have any up coming appointments and messages-emails so on so on. I just press down once and it says Y-fye off, then the time all on one line. sometimes the talks then number nine doesn't always work for me. not know why. same with trying to check battory level.

Ah, yeah see I'm in college too, and there's nothing worse than going down the hallway and some watch goes off. It's like, "Blindy allert!!! Blindy allert!!" LOL,

Hmm, this topic is surprisingly relevant. The battery in my talking watch has just died. This morning, my Dad took it to a local jewelle shop and it still didn't work after the battery was changed. Ah well, i'm in central London next Thursday, so hopefully I can get to the RNIB and get a new one. But I think this is the third watch i've had that's died due to the battery problem so I think it's quite common.

i'm prone to beleaving the dule battery post. because the first watch i got it replaced on, the watch worked, the speach didn't. this is an atomic watch, from maxi aids, cost 75 dollars, so i'm not going to be happy if i have to get it replaced again!
